Relatives and friends are invited to attend their visitation on Tuesday, July 31 at Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Ave., Roseland, N.J., from 4-7 p.m. Services will begin on Wed., Aug. 1 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Memories and condolences may be shared at farmerfuneralhome.com.
Born and raised in Roscommon, Ireland, she came to the U.S. when she was 21 years old and settled in North Caldwell over 50 years ago. Prior to her retirement, she was a supervisor for N.J. Bell in Glen Ridge. Nora was a longtime parishioner of Notre Dame Church. She was a member of the Giblin Association and the Roscommon Association.
In her first job back in Ireland, she quickly earned a reputation as an excellent bookkeeper - a reputation that strengthened throughout her life. In family card games, she could not be beat, though she insisted that compared to her brothers back home in Ireland, she was a novice.
Throughout their married life, Nora and Tony shared generously in every way.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Peggy Dowd, Raymond Dowd, and Madeline Gilligan in addition to her husband, Tony.
Surviving are her devoted children, Marion O’Neill, Brian Clarke, and Debbie Hanrahan, and her husband, John; cherished grandchildren, Michael O’Neill, John Hanrahan, Elizabeth Hanrahan, Briana Garrett, and her husband, Gatlin, Stephen Hanrahan, Jacqueline Clarke, and Ellen O’Neill; and loving siblings, Joseph Dowd, Frank Dowd, and Lawrence Dowd.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider making a contribution in her memory to Notre Dame Church, North Caldwell, Mt. St. Dominic Academy, Caldwell, or a charity of your choice.
