Judith Ann "Judy" O''Brien, 76, of Roseland, N.J. passed away at Morristown Medical Center''s Weinstein Family Inpatient Hospice and Palliative Care Center on August 12, 2018 with her loving family by her side. Born in Newark, NJ to Carl and Margaret (née Mayer) Balaniz, Judy was a longtime resident of Roseland. She graduated from Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington and Saint Michael''s School of Nursing in Newark. Upon completing her studies, Judy worked as a registered nurse in the hospital and as a clinical nursing instructor at the hospital''s nursing school. She also served in nursing positions for Liberty Mutual Insurance and in private medical practice.

Judy loved spending time with her husband and family in Bermuda, Longboat Key and at the Jersey Shore, where beach days and boating, followed by seafood feasts, were enjoyed by all. She was a talented cook at the helm of countless holiday celebrations, hosted at her most favorite place in the world, her home in Roseland. She loved ballet, Broadway musicals, British TV, Boston Terriers and dark chocolate non-pareils. Judy and her beloved husband Jack, who predeceased her in 2015, were a constant example of kindness, selflessness, bravery in the face of adversity and, above all else, steadfast love for one another and for their family and friends. A woman of unshakeable faith, Judy bore the burdens of her chronic illnesses with dignity and grace to the end. She was the rock of her family, and a blessing on everyone who had the privilege to know her.

Judy was a member of the Roseland Junior Women''s Club, the Town Set, the Rosary Society of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Family Service of West Essex and the EFCC.

In addition to her beloved husband Jack, Judy was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Margaret, and her brother, Robert J.Balaniz. She is survived by her children, Jacqueline O''Brien and her husband, Gregory Khost, Margaret O''Brien and John O''Brien and his wife, Kristin Scarola; adoring grandchildren, Maeve Khost and Saveria Sadie O''Brien; two siblings, Charles Balaniz and Joan Carroll, her brother-in-law William O''Brien and his wife Kathleen Zayatz, six nieces and nephews and dear friends too numerous to count.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy''s memory may be made to the Foundation for Morristown Medical Center, online at https://www.f4mmc.org or by mail to "Foundation for Morristown Medical Center", 475 South St., Morristown, NJ 07960.
