Lifelong West Orange resident.
Donald Meehan Mullarkey, a lifelong resident of West Orange, NJ passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a brief illness on November 9th. He was 93 years old.
Born in Orange, Donald was the son of Michael and Julia Mullarkey. He is predeceased by his two siblings, Eileen (2008) and U.S. Navy Veteran, Jack (1945). He attended grammar school at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School and then attended West Orange High School where he met his beloved wife of 58 years, Rose, predeceased 2013. It was also at West Orange High School where his sense of humor and ability to laugh easily garnered him the nickname, “Gigs”. After graduating in 1947, Donald joined his father in the family construction business, Trinity Construction, where he built numerous homes in West Orange and surrounding communities. Donald gained a reputation for meticulous work and excellent craftsmanship which brought him great pride. Above all, Donald was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished time with his family. He will forever be remembered for his incredibly gentle and kind nature.
He is survived by his daughter Maryanne (Richard) Davis; son John (Lisa), and daughter Julie (Alex) Gnoy and treasured grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, Emily and Lea.
The family wishes to thank his caregiver, Tessie Herrera, for her kindness and good care over the last four years.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Church, 44 Benvenue Avenue, West Orange, NJ 07052.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 13th at 10:30 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 44 Benvenue Ave., West Orange. Prior to mass, the family will be greeting those in attendance from 10:00-10:30 at the church. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J.
