Obituary for Elsie Ruth Cavaco (Evans)
Elsie Ruth Cavaco, 98, a longtime resident of Whippany, N.J., passed away on December 22, 2021. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 26, 2021 from 3-6 p.m. at Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Ave., Roseland, N.J. A prayer service will be offered at 6 p.m. Cremation will be private at Rosedale Crematory, Montclair, N.J. Memories and condolences may be shared at shookfarmer.com.
Born in Paterson, N.J., Elsie lived in Asbury Park, N.J. and later moved to Newark, N.J. where she attended Central High School. She later moved to Irvington, N.J. In 1951, she married her husband, the late Arthur M. Cavaco and in 1952 they moved to Whippany, N.J. where she raised her family. Elsie was a licensed dental assistant. From 1943 to 1951 she worked as a photography assistant at Lorstan Studio, Newark. In 1951 she was employed by Suburban Propane Gas Co. in Whippany until 1958 and then in 1967 she worked for several years at Crestwood Nursing Home, Whippany. Elsie was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Whippany, for many years.
Elsie was just a wonderful, kind, and empathetic person. She will be missed for her sweet, appreciative, and caring personality. Elsie was also an animal lover and was a member of the Mount Pleasant Animal Shelter and supporter of the Humane Society. She had many beloved pets throughout her life, nurtured homeless animals and rehabilitated wildlife. She had a special bond with her treasured grand-dog, Coco.
Predeceased by her husband, Arthur M. Cavaco, and half-brother, Leslie Pryce Evans, she is survived by her loving daughters, Maryann Larangera, and her husband, Horace, and Carol Sorrentino, and her husband, Steven; and grandchildren, Matthew Larangera, Chase Larangera, Christopher Sorrentino and Jillian Sorrentino.
The family would also like to acknowledge the staff at West Caldwell Care Center who cared for Elsie in recent years.
