Obituary for Frances E. Puglisi

Frances Elizabeth Puglisi, 85, peacefully passed away on January 18, 2022, surrounded by all her daughters.

Fran graduated from Emerson High School in Union City, NJ. She went on to further her education at the Katherine Gibbs School. It was there Fran tapped into an endless wealth of self-reliance. As a result became a true role model for women, demonstrating success and independence is achievable for all women. She passed these important skills and life lessons onto her daughters, and mentees. Fran had a successful professional life, retiring as the Director of Facilities for Pearson Education in Mesa, AZ. In her personal life, she was an active communicant of the Catholic Church, and served as a Eucharistic Minister for many years. Fran was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards with friends, and loved cooking. Anyone who shared a meal she prepared knew her outstanding culinary abilities. Above all, she treasured the time spent with family and friends.

Being quick-witted, Fran was aware of her declining mental ability, but remained strong-willed enough to keep her sense of humor. During one such occasion, she was quoted as saying “I hope this moment passes before I do.” It is her humor and laughter that will remain with us forever.

She leaves behind the gifts of love, curiosity, strength, and encouragement to all those who knew her. Family and friends meant the world to our Mom. She would often say, “there is nothing more important than family” and expressed the importance of friendship and how their visits were sanctifying.

Fran is predeceased by her parents, Mercurio Scala and Maria Carmella Pedulla, her beloved husband of 62 years, Deacon Robert Puglisi, and her sister, Josephine Pedulla.

She will be missed by her loving children Doreen, Maria (Bill Hammer), and Melisa (Denise Figueroa); her adored grandchildren, Vincent, Alex, Melanna, and Alicia, and cherished great-grandchildren, Sophia, Levi, Selah, Nora, and Siena.

Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Sunday, January 23rd, from 2:00 pm through 4:00 pm in the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068, shookfarmer.com. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday, January 24th, 11:00 am at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, Roseland, NJ, with entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Catholic Charities or to Franciscan Charities.
