Obituary for John Patrick Zutic

John P. Zutic
Beloved Husband, Father and Grandfather

John Patrick Zutic, of West Caldwell, NJ, passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 after a brief illness. A United States Army veteran and devoted family man, John lived a remarkably full 89 years.

John was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ. He was the son of the late John A. and Mary Helen (née Dillon) Zutic and the brother of the late Dolores Zutic. In Jersey City, he met the love of his life - Lorraine Dominic, who lived a block away from John. Lorraine timed her walks to “accidently” bump into John while he was out and about. The two were happily married for over 64 years. After John and Lorraine married and started their family, they moved to West Caldwell in 1969.

John proudly served in the Army during the Korean War before he was honorably discharged in 1954. John was employed by Acme Markets, Inc for over 35 years where he eventually became Manager of Managerial Accounting. John was a parishioner of Notre Dame Church in North Caldwell where he served as an usher for many years.

John was a man of varied interests - he was a fan of all sports and passionate about his favorite teams. He was a proud original season ticket holder of the New Jersey Devils. John was also a devoted reader of books (non-fiction) and multiple newspapers every day. Music was another passion - he enjoyed all types of music and made sure that something was always playing on his prized Bose radio or via his favorite Music Choice channels. He also loved doing puzzles and enjoyed taking photographs and creating slideshows which he would send out to everyone in the family. Physical fitness was a cornerstone of his life - he had regularly followed the Royal Canadian Air Force Exercise Plan since the 1950s and was walking on his treadmill up until the day he was admitted to the hospital last month. John also monitored the stock market closely everyday - while babysitting his grandchildren, he would have them regularly report on whether the CNBC ticker was green or red!

In addition to being a loving and attentive father and husband, for many years John made sure to care for his beloved mother until she passed at the age of 97. John was a reliable friend and neighbor who never hesitated to help others. He lived a life where he led by example, treating everyone he met with respect, dignity, and compassion.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 64 years, Lorraine; devoted children, John M. Zutic, James P. Zutic (Carmen), Thomas E. Zutic (William Mitchell), and Mary Catherine Tucker (Edward), also six cherished grandchildren and two adored great-grandchildren.
