Obituary for Marie L. Lach (Riccardello)

Marie L. Lach (nee Riccardello) 87, of West Orange, passed away on January 27, 2022.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather on Tuesday, February 1st beginning at 11:30am in the Shook-Farmer Funeral Home, 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, NJ 07068, shookfarmer.com. A funeral ceremony will begin at 12:00pm, with interment to follow at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, NJ.

Marie was born in Newark during a difficult period in her family. Her father had just died of pneumonia and her young mother Louise moved back in with the family in East Orange. Marie inherited this tenacity and resilience from her mother as she bravely faced health struggles throughout her life. Marie’s laughter warmed others and she earned a reputation as a fighter who could overcome any odds.
She raised her family in Irvington, worked as an administrative assistant for her family’s business Tobia’s Bakery, and retired to Toms River. Marie loved reading and swimming. She swam laps at the pool in Holiday City where she met Carl, her partner of 17 years. After his death, she moved to West Orange to be closer to family. And although she could no longer swim, she found joy in playing (and always winning) card games, listening to music and spending time with her family. Predeceased by her mother Louise Demere and her partner Carl Heller. Surviving are her beloved children, Linda and husband Richard Belott and Robert Lach and husband Edward Ribustello; loving grandchildren, Nico and Dana. Also surviving are her sister, Lucille Behar, dear cousins, nephews, and a niece.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Cliffs at Eagle Rock Assisted Living, for which we deeply appreciate the care and love for Marie these past four years. Donations can also be made to the charity of your choice. Marie donated frequently to ASPCA, MFPA, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
