Obituary for Sandra Eleanor Harvey (Selfridge)

Sandra Selfridge Lopus Harvey died on Sunday, January 2, 2022.

Sandra was born in Trenton, NJ to Eleanor Faulkert Selfridge and Frederick William Selfridge.

Sandra graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1954 and the College of N.J. in 1958. She married the late Alexander Leon Lopus, Jr. MD while he was in Hahnemann Medical College and lived in Collingwood where she taught at the Mark Newbie School. She also taught in Verona, NJ and Scotia, NY while Dr. Lopus was completing his residences in general surgery and orthopedic surgery. She lived in Montclair, NJ for twelve years before moving to Essex Fells, NJ where she lived for fifty years.

Sandra was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell for fifty years where she established “The Stephen Ministry”, which taught lay people in the “art of caregiving”.

In 2001 she married David A. Harvey, MD and they shared the love of theatre being patrons of the Manhattan Theatre Club and the Roundabout Theatre Club. They traveled together extensively and shared many delightful days until his untimely passing in 2009.

Sandra was a member with David of the Montclair Golf Club. She was also a member of the Women’s Club of Upper Montclair, The University Women of West Essex, a past president of the West Essex High School P.T.A.; a member of the executive womens board of the Kimberly School for 7 years; The Newark Academy executive womens board for 5 years; and a benefactor and trustee of the Bergen School for Child Development in Haworth, NJ.

Sandra loved her home on Barnegat Bay and was a member of the Lavallette Yacht Club for 10 years.

She leaves her beloved children, Alexander F. Lopus, Marjorie Lynn Jameson and Nancy Lee Lopus.

Join the family as they celebrate Sandra’s life at the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell, 326 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ 07006 on Friday, January 7, 2022 at 11:00 am. Friends may visit with the family prior to the service from 9:30 - 10:30 am in the church. *Masks are required inside the church* The interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Caldwell.
