Obituary for Walter Reeves Baker Jr.

On October 27, Walter Reeves Baker Jr., passed away peacefully at home. Relatives and friends are invited for visitation on Sunday, October 31, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Shook Farmer Funeral Home located at 45 Roseland Avenue, Roseland, New Jersey 07068. A memorial service will begin at 5:15 p.m. in the funeral home. The burial service will be private.

Walter was a warm, kind, generous, and charismatic person whose presence filled up the room. People were naturally drawn to him, and with his outgoing personality and quick wit, he made fast friends of co-workers, acquaintances, and strangers. Walter was born in Newark and raised in Harrison, then settled in Nutley in 1985 with his wife and children. He was a phenomenal athlete and an avid sports fan; he coached his children's sports teams as well as children with special needs. He retired this year after a long and successful career as sales manager for Luxury Floors in Newark.

Walter loved his family dearly and had a fierce loyalty toward his children and grandchildren who were like jewels in a crown that he wore proudly. He is survived by his wife and best friend SueAnn Baker (Cuccinello), son Ross Baker and his wife Julie and grandson Chase, daughter Laura Knarr and her husband Justin and granddaughter Adelaide.

Walter will be so very missed, but it is with comfort we can say “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." He waits for us in a better place, and we will see him again.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Walter's memory may be made to the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study at MorrisAnimalFoundation.org/AnimalNews.
